5 Tips To Prevent Your Foundation From Pilling

Tricia shares her 5 Top Tips and useful info on how best to minimise foundation pilling so that you can make the best from your makeup...

What is Pilling?

Pilling occurs when your foundation starts to clump or ball up on your skin instead of blending smoothly. It's a frustrating issue that can ruin your makeup look and leave you feeling less confident.

Why Does it Happen?

1. Rushing Your Regime:

Your skin has its absorption limits. Rushing through your skincare routine can disrupt this process, leading to pilling. Take your time and allow each product to absorb fully before moving on to the next step.

2. Ingredient Reactions:

Some skincare and makeup ingredients may not play well together, causing your foundation to pill. For instance, if your moisturiser is oil-based and your foundation is water-based, they may not mix effectively, resulting in pilling. All of our skincare and makeup is designed to work together so pilling should not occur if you use only our products.

3. Using Too Much Product:

Overloading your skin with too much product can also contribute to pilling eg using too much moisturiser. Start with a light application and only add more where necessary.

4. Incorrect Application Order:

Applying your skincare products in the wrong order can disrupt their effectiveness and lead to pilling. Follow the correct sequence: Cleanser, SPF 50+ Serum, Hydration Hold Serum, Moisturiser, Primer, Foundation. Additionally, avoid rubbing your skincare products into your skin; instead, gently pat them in.

5. Lack of Exfoliation:

Dead skin cells can accumulate on the surface of your skin, contributing to pilling. Regular exfoliation helps to remove these dead cells, promoting smoother makeup application. Try our Gentle Exfoliator for a refreshed complexion.
