Prime of Your Life? Use Primer for Mature Skin

When would you say you were in the prime of your life? I am not sure I could nominate any particular moment in the past when I thought, yes, this is it €“I am definitely now in my prime.€ I think we are fortunate now to live such long and full lives that each stage can feel like a new prime. My sixties have been so rich and packed that I would almost say that I am just reaching my prime now...

Which brings me to primers - Few women who come along to my makeovers have ever heard of primers. Yet when I was planning products for the Look Fabulous Forever range I knew it was essential we create the best primer for mature skin. In fact, so essential, we made three of them.

Why use primer for mature skin?

One of the problems we face as we age is that foundations, eye makeup and lipstick no longer stay put as they once did. This phenomenon is caused by the fact that our skin is no longer as smooth as it once was. It's also a lot drier - so makeup tends to be absorbed into the skin. As I aged I started to notice that a few hours after I had applied makeup to my face, it would look as though I had no makeup on. My eyeshadows also tended to migrate into the creases and crepey areas on my eyelids and as for my lipstick €“- ugh! What a nightmare! Whenever I applied a darker lipstick, the edges would become blurred as the colour €˜bled€™ into the fine lines around my mouth. This is why it's so important that those of us with mature skin use a good primer.

Fortunately, there is a brilliant solution to all three problems. Any painter and decorator worth his salt will spend time preparing a surface before he applies the top coat of gloss or emulsion. He or she will usually start with a primer, which smooths the surface and means the paint goes on better and lasts longer. This is exactly how our Smooth Like Silk Face Prime works on your face. It fills in any fine lines and open pores and leaves the skin feeling silky and satin smooth. Allow it to dry for a few moments and then you will find that the Continuous Cover Foundation just glides on. And it will stay put for hours. I rarely re-touch my face makeup from the moment I put it on in the morning until I cleanse it off at night.

Smooth Out Eye Prime does two jobs too. It is skin-coloured so it neutralizes any brownness on the eyelids (a common problem with older women) and it allows you to apply the Sheer Brilliance Lid Colour and No Shimmer Eye Shade easily. It will also ensure that your eyelids look smoother and less creased and crepey.

And finally, the Never Feather Lip Prime needs to be applied around the edges of the mouth. This seals the edge so that you get a really neatly defined shape to the mouth when you apply your Lustrous Colour Lipstick. I retouch my lipstick after meals etc but I only need the Lip Prime at the start of the day.

So €“ there you have it. I hope you really enjoy using what I believe are our 3 €˜hero€™ products!

Just after I finished writing this a comment was left by a customer on the Smooth Like Face Prime page:

"This is the first time I have used a Primer but decided to purchase it after watching the tutorial and I am so glad I did. It makes my skin feel so very soft and my base lasts all day. Thank you for this product it really makes a difference."
