Oh dear! I think that I struck a few sour notes last week when I wrote about the ten reasons that an older woman might not wear makeup. I was accused of being a ‘mean girl’ and coming over as judgemental and patronising. I want to apologise for any offence I may have caused, so this week’s blog is by way of a sincere ‘mea culpa.’
My Ten Best Reasons to Wear Makeup

Hello! I don't know if this will get read as I'm adding it several years after the post was actually made, but I've literally just read it! I'd just previously read the blog entitled 'Ten reasons why older women don't wear makeup' and I loved it! I'm about to be 60 next year and seem to be the only one of my friends who does wear makeup. I don't know if I look tarty in comparison (I definitely don't slap it on but being a natural redhead can make any enhancement, however, subtly appplied, appear more prominent). I've tried to dumb it down and have turned up once for a coffee without any on but felt really frumpy so have continued to wear it and I definitely feel better with it. I also enjoy weraing a lot of colour in my clothing which also seems to be in the minority. BUT your articles literally sang to me and I shall continue to enjoy being me - thank you :-)

Hi, I am a very new convert to your makeup line,- received my first order late last week. I have played with the products and am now getting a handle on how to apply thanks to the various tips and 'how to' videos on your site, for which I am beyond grateful. I love to wear makeup but have struggled to get even a reasonable result for some years in spite of investing large sums of money in very expensive products produced by large cosmetic companies. I picked up the link to your site from Kettlewell where I purchase 80% of my wardrobe as I am a light Spring and celebrate the wonderful colours and designs that suit me. Now I have found my 'Kettlewell' equivelant in your cosmetics company and this evening I placed my second order which kicks the ££££££designer products into touch! I will be fully converted when I receive the second order. This evening I also made enquiries to work at home introducing women of my era (60's+) to the best make up and skin care range I have ever used! My passion for both the make up and your approach to how older women can present themselves has stirred a passion in me that I haven't felt since I sold my company at age 55. It seems the time has come for me to embark on a part time, social career with a drive I haven't experienced for some time. I could go on but alreadymthis comment is rather long. Just know you have a new client who appreciates your very positive and supportive attitude to ladies ageing naturally, stylishly, and disgracefully!

As a new member I have only just read this wonderful, thoughtful blog. Make-up is a part of the armoury which helps me to face the world and the more difficult a situation, the more important it is to me to present myself as well as possible. My makeup has always been quite subtle but I don’t leave home without it and it is part of the discipline which has helped me go on with my life since I lost my husband. I always wanted to look good for him as well as for myself, and that has not changed.
We are all individuals and what is right for one may not be for another but I sometimes slightly resent the suggestion that, by applying makeup to an aging face, one is somehow ‘cheating’!
Thank you Tricia fo your even handed defence of what I see as good grooming.

Dear Tricia,
I always liked wearing makeup in my youth, however, now in my early sixties I rarely wear it and it’s been nearly a decade now since I’ve been able to either take the time or have initiative to apply make up. The last time it was awful, sinking into my wrinkles and not covering my age/wisdom spots on my cheek area.
I now have more wrinkles, age spots, hooded lids, thinning brows and down growing lashes. WOW! I hadn’t seen or considered the list all at once [frown].
So, I am in the market for new products that address these issues, as well as a tutorial for assistance with my age/wisdom spots and lines.
Thank you so much for the tutorials for hooded lids, thinning brows and beautiful lips. FABULOUS!
My skin color is slightly different, as well as my skin type is dryer than when I last purchased cosmetics.
I do have one tip to share; re: down growing lashes. I place my lash curler in a cup of warm water, blot dry with a clean cloth then curl my lashes and apply mascara. Then blow them dry on cool temp, on the low blower setting to lessen smudging.
Please help with a new base and foundation application and products that will address my myriad of needs.
I am a confident woman, and am not afraid to go without makeup, but would love the option, especially when it treats me to a good outcome.
Nothing like it; “Feeling Lovely”
