This week I have been up to Rhyl in North Wales to participate in an event for the readers of Yours Magazine. I gave a talk first and then did a makeover on Marion, one of the guests who was in her mid-sixties.

Make up to me is important as dressing, it does not matter if it is haute couture, gym or taking dog for walk. Make for all. Some have said ‘amazed you can be bothered at you age 60+, my mother is 98 and still will want to put make up on if going out. Not tried your make up yet but will soon.

I am about to turn 65 and have just retired. Shortly before I retired, I stopped coloring my hair so it is now a nice sliver with white highlights. Such a relief to stop coloring. We also moved to "the country" a few months ago - where I thought I'd have "the freedom" to stop wearing makeup after retirement.....after all, who would care. Well, I did. With the silver hair and no makeup, I couldn't figure out why I felt depressed...so I put makeup on every day. Much better, but still depressed as I was going for less is more and a lot more natural looking. It finally hit me one day after seeing a "before" picture of me.....I had COLOR!!! Not only had the gray stripped the color from my face, I have making it worse by super softening the colors. After going back to a full face, blush and lipstick...the whole thing....magically, I was me again....and happy. Did have to change the colors that I was wearing, but that was okay - not having to wear black or conservative clothes gave me the option to brighten up everything I wore. So, I say, thank you so much for affirming what it took me so long to figure out. Feeling pretty to yourself and it others, if necessary, makes you feel much younger. Thank you so much....we should shout it from the rooftops. I have more makeup than I know what to do with, but I am about out of the essentials, such as primer, which I will be ordering soon.

Hi Christine
How frustrating that you are having this problem! I think the fact that it is creating a patchy effect is caused by the texture of your skin. The makeup is 'grabbing' onto the drier areas and sliding off your cheeks.I'd suggest that you institute a skin care regime to improve the overall condition of your skin. Using a mild exfoliator (Clarins is very good for mature skin care), a moisturising mask and pore minimiser every few days should gradually improve your skin, although it may take 6-8 weeks to really see the improvement. I am also using a serum of Hyaluronic Acid every day with my normal serum and moisturiser on top. Hyaluronic Acid acts like a sponge on the skin and pulls in the moisture that you put on top. It's really improving the texture of my skin after about 3 months usage. I buy it from Beauty Bay for £6 so it's not stupid money to spend. I do hope that helps and if after all that you still find the Base does not suit your skin, then return it and we will refund you. Triciax

Hi Tricia. I would appreciate some advice please. I have the primer, base, blusher, highlighter, concealer and eye make up, plus the foundation brush. All excellent products but I can't get a smooth finish on my face. I've tried mixing the primer with the base, also seperately. It looks patchy, and dry in places. It settles in my pores and barely covers my slightly red cheeks. I find the brush doesn't help either. I watch your videos and you look wonderful but it seems impossible for me to achieve the same, despite my efforts. Please advise.
